Paris the city of lovers, the most romantic place on earth, the nuances of love echo from the language of the Parisians, music to the ear. We know we are in the city of Paris.
With so much love around, we are bound to enjoy our time here. Slowly does it and we are living like Parisians, in a gorgeous apartment, 250 yards from Sacre Coeur on Montmartre hill, even if only for one month.
Strolling along breezy boulevards, gazing upon impressive monuments, ogling at great works of art, savouring a gourmet selection of cheese, chocolate, wine and seafood, watching the locals go about their life and wandering to the boulangerie each morning.
Our month in Paris is divine and, comparing to a week long visit some years ago, it is a totally different experience. This time there is no rush, we have all day, we go to the supermarche for supplies, we master the metro (pretty easy), we picnic in the parks, we take day long walks, and everywhere is new and interesting.
Taking our own sweet time to explore Paris is our choice, because there are just so many things too see and photograph. Everything requires special attention including the bridge Pont des Arts. For those of you who haven’t heard here’s the story. A couple writes their names on a padlock and locks it onto the bridges. They then throw the key into the Seine River as a symbol of their undying love.
Then there is the fun and frolic of joining the crowds just watching bubbles being blown by a street entertainer.
You can’t just look at the grand medieval abbeys, gothic masterpieces, classical architecture, and the remarkable density of artistic and cultural treasures. You need to spend time savouring, and understand the depths of each piece of glorious history.
It’s similar to requiring the slow tempo of a Parisian night to fully experience French food; Paris cannot be rushed.
Paris is one of Europe’s foremost centres of learning and the arts and is a major influence in politics, fashion, business, arts and science.
The city is a Mecca for musicians, authors, artists, poets and lovers, who never miss a chance to get inspired by the beautiful city and all that it has to offer.
Paris inspires me to wax lyrical in poetic language.
Although I am not a musician or an artist – I still love you Paris.
I’m really enjoying your blog Jo! Your articles are well written and interesting 🙂
